"Housing as an eco-efficient living system"

Samadhi Lottus Corona is an eco-efficient modular single-family housing model conceived as a living habitat system, located in Los Álamos, within Colombia’s Coffee Region, on a 15,500 m² site planned for a low-density residential development. Its strategic location ensures urban connectivity, access to educational and commercial facilities, and a direct relationship with the natural environment, enabling the effective implementation of passive bioclimatic strategies and a sustainable lifestyle.

The project is founded on a vision in which housing ceases to be an isolated object and becomes a self-sufficient architectural organism, capable of adapting, growing, and regenerating over time. Inspired by the white lotus flower, a symbol of balance and resilience, the system is structured through individual housing units that function as “flowers,” grouped into communities where energy, water, shade, and productive spaces are shared forming a living urban fabric.

Each home is developed from a 66 m² base module, expandable up to 90 m², through a dry, prefabricated, modular construction system, organized on a 1.20 × 1.20 m structural grid. This approach allows spatial flexibility, reduced construction times, optimized resource use, and a significant reduction of the carbon footprint. The structural system combines certified timber and Guadua angustifolia bamboo, eliminating reinforced concrete and establishing a regional benchmark for sustainable urban housing.

The architecture is organized through a tripartite structure technical base, habitable volume, and bioclimatic roof that regulates the thermal, hydrological, and energy performance of each unit. Green roofs, cross ventilation, stack effect, passive solar control, and breathable envelopes provide high levels of thermal comfort with low energy demand, complemented by active systems such as photovoltaic panels and solar thermal collection. Integrated water management—through rainwater harvesting, greywater reuse, and natural biofiltration reinforces the self-sufficiency of the development.

When units are grouped, the interstitial spaces evolve into ecological corridors, community gardens, and composting areas, consolidating a model of domestic circular economy and strengthening community interaction. This principle of scalability and replicability allows Samadhi Lottus Corona to adapt to diverse climatic and cultural contexts across Colombia and Latin America, from temperate-humid regions to tropical environments.

Samadhi Lottus Corona redefines the concept of residential luxury, demonstrating that the true value of living lies in the balance between dignity, efficiency, sustainability, and collective well-being. A project that positions ELITE 24 STUDIO as a practice capable of delivering systemic, replicable architecture aligned with the environmental and urban challenges of Latin America’s future.
