VIVA LA VIDA MEDELLIN

Medellín | Architecture, gastronomy, and contemplation.

Viva la Vida is not just a fine dining restaurant: it's an architectural and sensory experience that fuses Eastern tradition with a contemporary, sustainable, and deeply emotional vision. Located on the upper levels of a rooftop building in Medellín, the project is conceived as a gastronomic haven suspended above the city, where architecture, cuisine, and landscape merge into a single narrative. The design draws inspiration from Eastern architecture, particularly the symbolism of arches and organic geometries, understood as portals of transition between the earthly and the spiritual. These elements structure fluid, continuous, and enveloping spaces, transforming the architectural journey into a ceremony preceding the gastronomic experience.

Geometry as Experience: The 120° Rotation. The project's main volume is defined by a 120° rotation, an architectural decision that breaks with traditional orthogonality and transforms the building into a dynamic landmark within the urban landscape. This rotation directs gestures and frames strategic views of Medellín and the Las Palmas corridor, generating a constant sense of movement, spaciousness, and visual connection with the surroundings. Viva la Vida unfolds across a six-level vertical sequence, where each floor represents a distinct experience: operational and technical areas in the basement, a ceremonial entrance and main restaurant on the lower levels, VIP areas, panoramic terraces, and specialized gastronomic experiences on the upper levels, culminating in a Sky Bar that integrates cocktails, live music, and the tea ceremony, with the city as a backdrop. This ascending journey reinforces the project's narrative: elevating the body, the gaze, and the experience.

The heart of the project is Michelin-starred chef Félix Jiménez, a leading figure in Japanese cuisine and contemporary fusion. Their concept, inspired by the Kaiseki philosophy, engages in a dialogue with the architecture and the surrounding environment: menus that follow the rhythm of the seasons, local ingredients, and the topography of the site. Each dish is an ephemeral work of art designed to evoke emotion.

Viva la Vida is not just a restaurant. It's a ceremony. An architectural and gastronomic manifesto. An act of love for life, the present moment, and contemplation.
